Sesquiquadrate

Overall, the sesquiquadrate tends to be a planetary aspect that is widely overlooked.  It’s importance tends to be negated on the birth chart.  And on the progressed chart it can be ignored all together.  But treating the sesquiquadrate as something to disregard is not prudent.  It’s important both on the natal and the progressed chart.

To begin, the sesquiquadrate points to stressful situations within the self and the external environment.  There is often the vague sense that something is wrong and the individual struggles to right the balance both within and without.

However, this desire to right one’s balance isn’t easily found.  The sesquiquadrate points to problems that have no immediate solution.  It points to a situation that feel as if there is no right answer.  And it often confers a sense of hopelessness.  It’s not uncommon to feel as if some sort of conflict or confrontation is inevitable.

Inevitably there is a sense that we must simply learn to power through the discomfort that the sesquiquadrate visits upon us.  With no solution presenting itself we find it necessary to draw on patience and temerity to make it through.  (Of course, good character traits to develop regardless.)

Also, the sesquiquadrate points to an area where we are prone to endless questioning, planning and analysis.  We may never get out of the planning stage.  We struggle to move forward in a practical and tangible way.  Instead, we’re prone to the endless thought circles of a perfectionist mind.  The sesquiquadrate makes us prone to excessive behavior of all kinds.

Ultimately the sesquiquadrate is a productive aspect that spurs us towards accomplishment and success though the road to get there often feels burdensome.  We will be thrust into action as we try to find harmony between the two disparate energies of the planets in the aspect.  This aspect can eventually lead to great things for us but we will have to work for it.

And yet, it’s important to look at how we are likely to respond to the sesquiquadrate emotionally.  This is usually an area of great frustration and disappointment for us. It’s where we are prone to overreaction and to blowing things way out of proportion.  Here we need to learn to relax and to let go of resentment.  If we can learn to do this then the great benefits of the sesquiquadrate are within our reach.

Semi-Square

In general, the semi-square aspect in astrology is considered a minor aspect.  And sometimes when it comes to the progressed chart it is disregarded all together.  This is a problematic attitude as the semi-square not only confers great significance on the natal chart but it has much relevance on the progressed chart as well.

To begin the semi-square speaks to a difficult circumstance emerging.  It points to an area of inflexibility within the personality of the native.  This inflexibility often emerges in the external environment as a manifestation of this misplaced energy.  The environment may become uncomfortable to the native demanding some type of change on their part so that they can be more comfortable.

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for the semi-square to place great obstacles in the path of the individual.  Now they must struggle to overcome if they are going to adapt the changes they need to run their life more harmoniously.  Many astrologers point to the fact that the semi-square is therefore here to teach us great persistence and patience.  (Though this can feel of little comfort when we are in the heat of struggle.)

In addition, the semi-square can manifest in our external environment as surrounding conflict.  This can mean conflict on the job or in your family.  Often this is conflict that doesn’t directly involve you that you nonetheless feel compelled to get involved in often to disastrous results.  That’s the point of the semi-square though.  It’s very easy to get wrapped in other people’s drama.

In fact, the next stage of this is usually to engage in direct conflict with others.  Having unpleasant confrontations is quite normal when under the influence of the semi-square.  You may find yourself needing to distant yourself from certain relationships now or leave them all together.

Always remember that the semi-square points to deeply buried internal conflict in the self.  This is energy of our own personalities that we are struggling to integrate.  If we are unable to integrate this energy then inevitably it will manifest in our external environment.  This often takes the form of fated events or circumstances that feel like destiny calling.

In the end, we are likely to be quite tense and overreact where a semi-square is.  We tend to be overly sensitive to the issues that it represents.  At the same time we need to remember that ultimately the semi-square is a productive aspect (though less so then the full blown square.)  It is productive because we are so uncomfortable and tense in the energy that it creates both within us and in our environment that we are motivated to create change in our lives and in our self.  And this motivates us towards growth and the accomplishment of goals for a better future for ourselves.  If we can work with our semi-squares then we will be all the better for it.

Quintiles and Bi-quintiles

The quintile is generally considered to be a minor aspect in astrology.  However, it is an aspect that should be paid greater attention to not only on the natal birth chart but the progressed chart as well.  The quintile represents a creative crisis of sorts and gives the ability to develop a latent talent.

In addition, the quintile aspect tends to be easier to handle.  We may even feel a sense of excitement around the aspect and feel eager to engage in the creative apex that the two planets involve represent.

Also, the quintile aspect is associated with the number  in astrology.  It also has connotations with the planet Pluto and Mercury as well as the sign of Virgo.

In the most profound way possible the quintile bestows great communicative ability.  Where we find our quintiles we also find the ability to translate information into a cohesive form and make it available to others.  We can become masters where our quintiles are and take our knowledge and teach it in an effective manner to those around us.  Our quintiles also imbue us with the ability to learn quickly.  We’ll be able to assimilate information, pull together seemingly disparate facts and create a working model of what is actually being presented to us.  The quintile shows us where we can attain mastery.

And yet, the quintile also gives us a unique ability to be creative.  Where we find our quintiles we will find a deep need for a creative outlet.  The quintile often bestows upon us artistic gifts and original concepts.  It’s is often where we find our talent.  It is where we are driven to achieve.

If we don’t attend to the energy of the quintile and allow it to fester we can suffer with compulsive tendencies.  The energy of the quintile must find productive release in creative or teaching pursuits.  If we don’t grant that then the energy of the quintile can become destructive.

In the progressed chart the exact quintile aspect can be indicative of successfully timing the manifestation of external events like marriage, relocation, a new job, etc… Furthermore in the progressed chart this can indicate the energy of a planet finally gaining voice and manifesting in your life in a profound way.  It’s as if a new side to you is coming alive.  Through the focusing of your intent and harnessing the great energy of the quintile you can make wonderfully things happen for you now.  (Of course, whatever is represented by the two planets in the quintile is what is likely to manifest in joyful ways.)Also, in the progressed chart the quintil often represents where we need freedom and change and where we seek to manifest our independence in profound ways.

And finally the bi-quintile is very similar to the quintile in interpretation. The major difference between the two aspects is the sense of urgency that is involved. The quintile is generally pleasant energetically.  We feel a great sense of hope and optimism here.  The bi-quintile is more of a pressing need to do something…to create…to learn and to grow.  There is a sense that we must fulfill our destiny and become something more then we are.  It’s like we have a latent talent or ability that we know we are destined to manifest in a meaningful way and until we do so we may feel quite unsettled over the two planets in the aspect.  Until we develop the talent or skill represented by the bi-quintile we may suffer through a haunting feeling that something profound is missing from our life.  And further we may feel guilt that we haven’t manifested it yet; like we are failing ourselves in someway.  The main difference between the quintile and the bi-quintile is the sense of emotional anguish we are likely to feel over the latter.

Progressed Moon Quintile Jupiter

This is usually a pleasurable aspect that brings with it an increase in fun, pleasure and social activities.  Now we are much more likely to search out a good time.  We may be more willing to experience multicultural activities now and broaden our horizons.  Under this influence we have a tendency to lighten up and appreciate our life as it is.

In a productive capacity this aspect brings with it an increase in leadership skills.  We often become more charismatic now.  Others often see us as charming and magnetic.  We may have an easier time drawing people to us and making a good first impression.  We’re likely to have better interpersonal relations now coupled with excellent social skills.

We’re also more likely now to seek out the companionship of women.  We may experience a real desire to nurture and give comfort.  We could seek out children, animals and those that need that kind of attention from us.  Also, we may pursue traditionally female centered activities now.  The quintile has a way of pushing us to become experts at something.  So don’t be surprised if you suddenly pursue the domestic arts, cooking, or sewing with a wild passion now.

Also emotionally we are much more likely to be free and open now.  We’ll be more articulate and willing to express our feelings honestly.  Just try not to take it to an extreme.  Don’t fall prey to overreaction and melodrama.

Progressed Moon Square, Semi-Square or Sesquiquadrate Neptune

During the time period that your Progressed Moon makes a square, semi-square or sesquiquadrate to Neptune your attention will turn to your loftiest hopes, dreams and goals.  And unfortunately now is the time when you may begin to realize the futility of holding onto these dreams.  Now is a time when you may begin to see that your ultimate dreams, ergo the direction you would ultimately like to move, is in direct conflict with your environment, your home, your place of employment and the people in your life.  And all of this can be a quite daunting realization.

Conflicting now between your ultimate dreams and the reality of your day to day life you may not be sure where to to turn or who can help you sort out your life.  You may now find that the responsibilities of your daily life are too overwhelming and you may begin to panic as you struggle to see a way to really get in life where you not only want to be but where you feel you deserve to be.

One of the major issues that can occur now is a long-held dream may finally be dashed.  Or you may simply come to the realization that it’s far to unrealistic and outlandish.  The fall back to Earth may be brutal for you as you struggle to see where you need to go from here and how you put the pieces back together.

Dealing with this disappointment many people turn to various forms of escapism to help them cope.  Some people may turn to relatively benign activities like oversleeping, indulgence in sweets, and daydreaming the hours away.  While others may actually partake in drugs, alcohol or hardcore partying.

A difficult cross to hurdle now is the fact that somewhere in your life the need to make decisions may be bearing down on you.  And the problem is that you don’t know how to do that or move forward.  Your not sure what is the right call to make.

When it comes to work you may feel as if you need to choose between your feelings (what you want to do and need to do to feel good about yourself) and what the reality of the situation seems to be dictating to you.  There may be little common ground between the two.  Or you may be called to make some sort of overall life choice now that is weighing on you.  The influence of Neptune is to confuse the issue so sorting through what’s real and what’s not can be very difficult now.  You may feel simply unable to commit to anything right now.

As a coping mechanism of sorts you may disengage now when people approach you with problems.  If you have no good answers or solutions this may seem the most judicious way of handling things now.

Something difficult for you is that you may feel more sensitive then usual now.  You may feel more sensitive to your environment and the feelings of those around you.  It’s like your soaking up potential bad energy like a psychic sponge.  You may need more time alone to balance this out now and recharge your own batteries.  Also don’t be surprised if you become lazy or engage in procrastination now.  The influence of Neptune is to slow things down now and make it difficult to move forward.  This is okay.  Just take your time with wherever you are and do it right.

One of the things you may struggle with now is your intimate partnerships and relationships.  For whatever you may feel truly unable to let go emotionally and trust your partner.  It may feel as if you aren’t really reaching a meeting of the hearts now and you may find yourself more guarded then usual.

Whereas your partner may feel as if you are unreachable in the relationship itself.  Now is a time when you have a tendency to disengage from what is going on around you, at least to a degree, if your partner has sensed this it can cause a lot of friction as they struggle to figure out what has caused your distance and apparent apathy.

For those that are single now is a time when you may attract Neptune-like partners to you.  You may get involved with potential partners who are deceptive, elusive, irresponsible, addicted or unable to commit.  The bright side of the Neptune influence is that you may attract potential partners that are deeply spiritual, romantic, idealistic, and driven by humanitarian urges and impulses.  There are two sides to every coin.  And depending on how comfortable you are with handling the call of Neptune in your life is often the deciding factor determining how this aspect will go for you.

And for all those single or partnered now is a time when you need to watch out for clandestine affairs and inappropriate romantic involvements.  Neptune confuses things and makes your emotions foggy. Also watch for the leaking of secrets now.  Personal scandals and skeletons have a way of coming to light now.

One of the things you may feel very intently now is a yearning for wholeness.  It’s as if your soul is empty at least on some level.  And now you are struggling to find someway to fill yourself with meaning.  This search tends to take you on the journey towards unconditional love.  And this is surely one of the greatest benefits of this position.  You may be able to harness your own primal loving nature in a way that you never were before.  And you may find now that giving and receiving unconditional love is the only thing that matters; not money, accomplishments or material goals.

Also, this aspect gives you a great opportunity to work on developing true self-confidence.  Learning the nature of unconditional love will lead you towards great love of the self and better integration.  Also, you need to work on developing a strong creative outlet in your life.  Without that the Neptune urges may overwhelm you.

Potentially, you may also have to deal with having the people around you misjudge and misread your actions now.  This is the Neptune influence of obfuscating the truth and perhaps even making you appear deceptive.  You may also become aware that you feel very thin-skinned about things and are more sensitive.  You’re really going to have to work hard to get things to roll off your back.

Much of the problem may be that you overly idealized your childhood.  You may feel called now to deal with the memories of what your childhood really contained and these can be painful memories.  You may come to realize that the nurturing you received in your childhood was inconsistent in someway or unable to fulfill your real needs.  As a result this feeling of emotional lacking may be plaguing you now quite intensely.

Because of the resurfacing of these childhood feelings you may be experiencing wild mood swings now.  You may feel as if you lack the emotional support from others that you really need to heal and move on with your life.  Usually we look to our intimate relationships to fulfill these needs but for whatever reason you could feel that that is not possible for you now.

Now is a time when you are being called to face emotional difficulties on your own.  You have to learn how to face this emptiness head-on and resolve it within you as opposed to turning to others for support or even attempts at escaping the problem.  Feeling disenchanted with life in general is quite common now.  In fact, you may swing wildly between feelings of great hope and futility.  Both are possible with this aspect between the Progressed Moon and Neptune.

Overall, you may feel as if you are the victim of your own feelings now.  It’s as if you can’t catch a break from the needs inside of you and yet you see no obvious way to fulfill them.  Your emotional needs may feel so deep now it’s as if you’re staring into a bottomless pit.  What you are searching for is support and nourishment (usually emotional nourishment that you feel you didn’t get in childhood for whatever reason.)

This is the time to tangibly move forward now.  Don’t just survive this time period.  Thrive.  Work on developing internal support structures within yourself so that you can fulfill your own emotional needs and not feel dependent on anyone or anything.  Boost your self-confidence.  And find a creative outlet for your own inner Neptune.

Sun Inconjunct Progressed Moon

Now is a time when great conflict may come into your life.  You are likely to struggle now between the conflicting needs of your ego (what you want to accomplish in life) and the needs of your emotions for security.  What you think you should what you think needs to be accomplished is often diametrically opposed to what you feel like doing and what would make you feel warm, safe and happy.

This is a time when you may feel as if you don’t know which is the right way to go.  You have things to do and pressure bearing down on you.  But at the same time your energy may be low and you may feel unable to focus long enough to really accomplish anything of merit or value.  On a very core level your running in two polar opposite directions.  It’s your task to try and marry your desire to accomplish and self-express with your need for comfort and security.

Something else to watch for now is that this internal conflict may manifest outside in your material realm.  Your actions (or rather inaction) may be misjudged and misunderstood by those around you.  People in your life may begin talking about you and making statements about your behavior and motivations that simply aren’t true.

On the other hand it may be you that is doing the unfair judging.  You may misconstrue what your family, friends, co-workers, and/or spouse is really up to.  All this misunderstanding and faulty theorizing can lead to interpersonal conflicts and blow ups.  That is something to watch out for now.

In addition, this can be a very difficult time for relationships of all kinds.  The most likely source of manifestation is within the marriage or romantic romantic relationship.  It’s not at all uncommon to feel now that you’re being walked on by a partner or have become a doormat to the needs of a spouse.

Whatever context the relationship it’s likely that you are spending too much time trying to please and mollify others.  Your needs and boundaries and point of view is being disregarded in someway by those around you.  But right now, you may feel as if you lack the self-confidence to stand up for yourself.  Now you are walking a fine balance of trying to acknowledge and honor your own needs and boundaries while at the same time maintaining a sense of diplomacy in your relationships.  You may feel as if there is no balance or can be no balance and you are flip flopping from one side (your boundaries) to the other (overly compromising with your partner.)

For those that are in intimate relationships this aspect can put stress on one’s sex life.  Often times your partner may begin behaving sexually in ways that don’t make sense and leave you frustrated.  It’s not uncommon to be endlessly teased by a partner now only to have no actual fruition come of the teasing.  A partner may make promises now only to fail to deliver on them in every way.  You may be counting on alone time with a partner for intimacy only to have them leave you hanging at the last minute.

And for those that are single this aspect can be difficult when it comes to people you may meet now as potential partners.  The people that you meet may give you mixed sexual signals.  They may dress provocatively, come on strong, whisper lewd promises and then equivocate and claim to have the moral tenacity of a Quaker.  It can be very difficult to get a read on people now.

In addition, if your single you may meet potential partners that are only half right for you.  They may meet the needs of your Sun in terms of career and status but lack any emotional depth.  Or they may make you feel wonderful and take care of your emotional needs but be all wrong for you on paper.  You two may come from very disparate worlds.

If you’re not meeting potential partners now but simply thinking of pursuing a relationship this can also be a difficult time.  You may feel pulled hopelessly in two different directions.  You may be unable to figure what it is that would really make you happy in a relationship or what it is that is right for you.  The whole thing may seem to overwhelming to deal with now.

And yet, this feeling of not know what you want in a relationship can actually extend to all areas of your life.  You may feel an extreme general sense of dissatisfaction now and not know how to move forward.  What do you want?  What are you working towards?  How can you accomplish your goals?  These are all questions you may be wrestling with now.  And it’s all compounded by the fact that something in your life just seems intangible and beyond your grasp.  There’s something here that you just don’t know how to deal with effectively.

Now your wrestling with your own internal primal feelings of the Sun vs. the Moon.  This is your need for independence and self-expression vs your need for comfort and closeness with another.  You may feel now, perhaps more then ever, that it’s too difficult to find a way to marry the two conflicting sides together.

In fact, you may feel overwhelmed by your needs for safety and dependency with another.  You may crave the presence of a partner in your life now.  Or you may crave more then what you are getting from a spouse.  Whatever the case is you are left wanting.

But at the same time you resent the fact that you need greater closeness from another.  You long to be self-sufficient and care for your own emotional needs.  This dependency and craving is unacceptable to you in someway.

And yet, now you are also experiencing random bursts of independence and full blown autonomy.  You may have days here where are at the top of your game and feel able to handle anything on your own.  You may begin to feel your own personal power and what you are really capable of.

So as you can see this pull between the need for another and the need for your own autonomy can lead to great frustration within you.  This is why you must find someway to bridge the gap between these two needs and accept the opposing needs within you.  This search for peace between these opposing primal forces (Sun vs. Moon) can lead to great interpersonal growth and development on your part.  And it’s the sense of frustration that spurs you on towards your goal.

Ultimately during the influence of this aspect you want to recognize your own self-defeating attitudes and how these attitudes sabotage both your interpersonal goals and your relationships.  The point of this aspect is to take a journey towards self-discovery and wholeness; a union of Self.  In the end, if you can find a way to bridge the gap between the drive of your ego and the needs of your feelings then greater integration of the self is possible.  And with that integration comes greater joy and freedom!

Progressed Moon Inconjunct Mars

One of the primary hallmarks of this aspect is the emotional instability that it can bring into your life.  This is because you will feel like moving in different directions.  You may feel unable to process what is the right path or right decision for you now. This is the spark of desire versus emotional fidelity and the expectations of others.

On one hand your desire is pulling you one way but on the other your desire for emotional security is leading you the opposite direction.  You may feel pulled between your need to try something new or take some daring action with your need to feel safe and secure and do what is expected of you.

Now is also a time when you may feel overly emotional.  You may wear your heart on your sleeve and have out bursts of feelings that you leave you embarrassed. You can also be more irritable now and prone to anger.

This is also a time when you may experiment quite a bit with your relationships.  This experimentation can take place in any relationship but the romantic relationship is the most likely place for this to manifest.  The experimentation can take the form of anything from communication style, to personal boundaries and even the activities you participate in together.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this influence is the ability to accomplish lofty goals.  If you can focus your energy and effectively marry your emotions with your desire then you now have the opportunity to accomplish something quite grand for yourself.  This influence often lends itself to the artistic and creative so use your imagination when trying to find the appropriate outlet for this energy.  The point is to have something that you are working on and working towards.  That is the best and most effective way to handle this aspect.  Give yourself direction.

A note of caution, this aspect can cause great anxiety in some people.  It’s best to try and focus on relaxation now.  Be aware that accidents are possible now if care isn’t taken.  And if you have any stomach issues of any kind ( anything from ulcers to IBS) please be aware that under the effects of this anxiety they may cause you more problems then usual.  So please be gentle with yourself now.

Progressed Moon Opposite Venus

This is an aspect that lends itself to relationship issues.  Under its influence you may find yourself overly compromising and giving into others too readily.  Or a partner may be putting pressure on you to release your personal boundaries in favor of what they want.  You may begin to feel like a doormat in your relationship now and wonder if your wants and needs are important at all.

Now is a time when resentment can build within you.  You may feel as if you are the one who always gives and your partner walks all over you.  This feeling of resentment can extend to all types of relationships; platonic, familial or even the employer-employee dynamic.

If this aspect does manifest itself within your romantic relationship look for a decision to come up that needs to be made that you both are struggling with.  It could be something simple like choosing home decor to something larger like deciding to start a family.  The point is that you and your partner will likely be at opposite ends of the spectrum and someone will need to make a compromise and give in.

This can also be a time of difficulty when trying to communicate with a partner.  You may feel unable to really express your feelings now.  For whatever reason you may feel it’s more important to be diplomatic then it is to really reveal your feelings to your partner.  Or you may try communicating honestly from the heart but still feel as if your partner doesn’t understand you.  As a side note, communication problems in any type of relationships could pop up now but the romantic relationship is most likely.

One of the positives to this aspect, for those in intimate relationships, is the usual increase in sex drive.  Sexual activity has been known to become more rewarding and fulfilling while under this influence.  You and your partner may be more willing to experiment now.

It’s also not uncommon for this aspect to be associated with relationship break-ups.

If you’re single now may be a time when you are struggling to really get a handle on what you need and want out of a relationship.  You may feel very confused about the direction of your life overall and how a potential partner could fit into that.

Suddenly, you may find yourself harboring an unusual attraction to someone completely unsuitable for you.  Or an attraction could bloom between you and someone that is normally not your type or polar opposite of you in someway.  You may go into the relationship knowing up front that it will be a romance of opposites.

Or you may jump into bed much too quickly with a potential partner regretting your actions.  Under this influence it’s not uncommon to feel as if you don’t have the power to choose your romantic partners from the heart.  It’s more a feeling that you are being chosen by them.

It’s likely that the potential partners coming into your life now seem unsuitable to you in some way.  For whatever reason the type of person that you are normally attracted to isn’t available right now.  As a result you may feel stuck with what and who is available.  A potential partner, deemed by you to be unsuitable, may suddenly express deep feelings for you now causing you to forgo the difference between you and your own misgivings and jump into the relationship anyways.  The point with this aspect is that unusual partnerships that don’t get off to the smoothest of starts can be quite common.

Now may also be a time of deep insecurity in your life.  You may be experiencing an internal war between your need for emotional security and your need for a social and/or romantic life.  It may feel as if what you need out of life to create structure, routine and deep security is directly opposed to what you need to have a richly rewarding social and/or romantic life.  You may feel hopelessly lost between the two.

A great benefit to this aspect is the fact that you need to sit down and think this through.  It’s time to analyze the self and find balance between your feelings and your desire for romance.  Great personal growth can be had from this.

Also, you may struggle amongst yourself now.  You may have difficulty really accepting what your own emotional needs are now.  You may feel a general sense of insecurity and instability in your life and not know what it would take to put you back on an even keel. The benefit to this is the soul searching this aspect can influence you to undertake and how you can learn to accept the self.  This acceptance can lead to greater integration as a person.

To begin, there are a lot of similarities in experience when the Progressed Moon is in Scorpio or when it is in the 8th House.  I have already presented information on the experience of the Progressed Moon being in Scorpio.  So for here I will be presenting a more complete analysis of the Progressed Moon moving through the 8th House.

When the Moon first progresses into the 8th House you may suddenly become obsessed with your own parents and your own childhood experiences.  Often times this lunar position stirs up trouble and difficulty with your family.  Skeletons may suddenly become unearthed causing drama and hysterics.  Dark memories from your childhood may suddenly be unearthed.  If your parents are available to you this may be a time of confrontations, anger and blow ups.  If you can’t confront your parents now, for whatever reason, then you may choose to bury your anger and repress your unmet feelings.
